Halloween for Harvey

Harvey was the first dog I have had who wasn't afraid of fireworks. He didn't mind the sound at all, but sometimes the flashes scared him. After many years of sheilding Kerouac from fireworks and thunder this was a welcomed change. We were able to go out and walk among the trick-or-treaters and whe would be happy and excited by the number of people walking about.

One year we were out and a group of kids surrounded him to pet him and say hi. There were 6 or 8 kids all around him touching and petting him. He was fine with it but wanted to keep moving. One little girl in the group suddenly said "we need to back away, his tail is going down and he's not comfortable". What an amazing observation for a kid to have made - with everything else going on.

We moved on happily walking among people and avoiding dogs - as always. If we were home we would have to close the blinds and stay away from the windows to make the house seem unoccupied. Harvey did not like people coming to the door - and trick-or-treaters would have been the worst for him. I spared him the stress.

But, he did make a wicked Clint Eastwood!!
