Harvey’s Last Friend.

On the day Harvey left this world, I took him for a walk outside the vet clinic because he was panicking inside. He was restless and couldn’t catch his breath, so we went for a walk outside in the cool air. The trees at the vet clinic were one of his favourite sniffing spots. The day was sunny and warm. Harvey and had been outside all night. I think the cool air helped his lungs to feel better.

Harvey was sniffing trees when a gentleman came to the clinic with his dog. The pup was eager to meet Harvey, and Harvey seemed good with it.  I explained why we were there and the man shared some kind words while the dogs exchanged greetings. Harvey went back to his sniffing and the man and his dog left. I can’t remember the dog’s name or what he or the man looked like  all I know it that he was nice and kind, like most dog lovers

I think back to that experience a lot. What it’s like to do something for the last time without knowing that this is your last time doing it. We’ve all done things for the last time in our lives. Hugged our parents or seeing a particular friend or done a specific thing - for the last time. I am glad that Harvey got to meet a nice dog and was able to make one more friend.
